The gulf of Kavala is the ideal destination for sailing Winds of usually 3-4 or even 5 Beaufort are

almost always guaranteed, that is because of the closed gulf that hasn’t created ripples and that

making the conditions ideal for amatures. The beaches of Iraklitsa and N. Peramos, the dunes to the

west or Keramoti and Fanari eastward will enchant you. And yet you haven’t seen Thassos. The

green island of the Aegean Sea with pine trees reaching the sea. 12 n. Miles from Kavala or 5 from

Keramoti. And if you are lucky, you will meet some of the bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops Truncatus)

or Delphinus Delphis or striped dolphins (Stenella Coeruleoalba) appearing suddenly beside you in

groups of three or nine, as well as sperm whales in small groups. On the north side of the island one

can always find a place in the marina of the capital Limenas, as well as in the west harbor

Kallirachis or south to the ports of Limenaria. Are you fond of offshore night too? Note down :

Depths, Golden sands, Kinira, Kalyvia and do not forget Alikes, especially if you are interested in

archaeological sites. And of course, go out on the land, visit the mountain villages, try the local

delicacies … or walk in the paths among the pines …

Are you an experienced sailor? Are 4 Beauforts not challenging enough for you? Then, you just

have to sail further east towards Samothrace perhaps with a stopover in Fanari. When you reach the

island of ”Cabiri mysteries” you can rest in the harbor of the capital in Kamariotissa or in Therma

on the north side. Proud locals will tell you immediately that the mountain Saos, is the tallest in the

Greek island. They will advise you to visit the waterfalls, to cool off in the countless ponds that they

form …and if it not … the fishermen will tell you to try the only kid of Samothrace. Listen to their

advice! Have you got the time to move on? Easy … tailwind will take you to Lemnos. It is the

eighth largest island in Greece. Cozy harbors, abundant and cheap fish in fish restaurants,

archeological museums. You’ll be easily charmed and will find it hard to leave the island, but other

destinations, such as the Sporades or Chalkidiki will invite you to visit them .If you do not have

time to go anywhere else, there you will take an oath: i will be back next year! (you will say), and
